Has anyone had any trouble with hive beetles?

I have had a couple of hives to get weak, (swarmed and did not raise a queen), that were over come by beetles.

What is the most effective and best treatment to get rid of these pests?

North Alabama has a real infestation. Strong hives can keep control, but what is going to happen when the bees cluster?
