Dear Friends:

Most of the participants in my classes are RNs. What gets their attention is
my motto "Skin to skin saves nurses work". Having done it myself, we discuss
how putting the baby s2s keeps the baby calm and healthy, helps the mother to
connect with her baby, and the nurse can do all the other chores that need
doing while waiting for the baby to wake up and self-attach.

All it takes is for one participant to agree, then ask her to elaborate
about her experience for the rest of the class. Another participant speaking
about her experience can carry more weight than the voice of the presenter.

And lord knows, nurses in the US could use a break from some work! I've
found it helpful to reinforce that breastfeeding as a consequence of s2s is about
the only 'new' intervention offered that means no additional work for nurses.

warmly,

Nikki Lee RN, BSN, MS, Mother of 2, IBCLC, CCE, CIMI
