The Soroptimist publication "Best for Women" (Dec/Jan/Feb 2008) headlined an
article titled "Censored: the breastfeeding battle - breast is best for babies
but moms still fight for rights." Some of those on this list serve may be
members of Soroptimist Organization, but if you have a contact, please read
the article. Our very own Ruth Lawrence is quoted, as is Marsha Walker. The
photo on the front cover is of a mother breastfeeding her baby. Our Director
of Nursing at my Health Department (she is a member of Soroptimist) actually
passed on the publication to me. I plan on approaching her with a request to
apply for a 1st 5 grant to fund breastfeeding support and a pump rental
program in our local area. At this point, 1st 5 has yet to fund this type of
need.
