Mary,
I would like to point out that many of the recent posts on this subject
were in response to the comment the judge made regarding breastfeeding
mothers, as quoted in Time Magazine, and not the actual case. Besides that,
I have yet to see any news items that reports that young children, toddlers,
preschoolers etc... are in any danger on the ranch. Perhaps you could send
a news link for those of us who are blissfully ignorant of what's happening
in the world.
All the best,
Chayn

Subject: Texas FLDS Cult NEWS FLASH? 5 days old....
This issue has been addressed and answered on Lactnet nearly ad nauseum in
the last week.
As of April 23rd, the judge has ordered ALL children under 12 months back
into
the care of their mothers, as well as many other children, as long as the
children and mothers are in a safe environment. Meaning, they do not, at
this
time return to the ranch. (It's in every paper and news report I have seen
the
last five days....)
Seeing as most children in this Cult are born only a year or so apart, it
seems
unlikely there are many nursing toddlers. (I didn't say none, I said 'few.')
I
agree that all children should be with their mothers...... as long as the
mothers
agree not to allow them to be raped, but, that is what these mothers have
been doing until the raid.
From what I have read, the mothers who chose to return to the FLDS ranch
can get their children back, as soon as they obey court orders and keep
their
children away from the place where rape of young girls and plural, faux
marriages against their will are a way of life. At least until the court can
determine the risk to the children's well being. (Rape is notoriously bad
for a
young girl's well being....)
The fathers may have done the actual rapes, but the mothers did nothing to
protect their own young. That is why the children were taken in the first
place. (The original "phone call" is immaterial.) The only innocent people
in this
case are the children.
Think about this: If these women were living in a Trailer Park, and AIM
feeding
their babies, letting 50 yr old men have sex with their young daughters, and
the Law came in and removed the children for safety, how many of us would
be "outraged?"
THAT is all I am going to say about that. I have a feeling this is going to
be
getting off topic, and the scope of this case is far MORE than just
breastfeeding related, and not what Lactnet was created for.
Perhaps the List Mothers could weigh in on the appropriateness of this
subject. IMO, my 3 posts a day can be better spent than this on this issue.
But, the repeated posts which tell me people simply are looking quickly and
getting unnecessarily upset at Old News, without knowing the specifics of
why
these children were taken from an unhealthy, violent environment prompted
me to respond on an issue which I promised myself I wouldn't respond to
again.
Sorry if I am prickly, but knowing children were abused in some of the most
horrible ways overshadows any short time of breastfeeding these mothers may
or may not do.
This ISN'T mainly a breastfeeding issue. It is a child abuse issue. And out
of
Lactnet's scope.
THIS is my last word on this subject.
