I have two that I would recommend:

-- My favorite portable amplifier is the MiniVox from Anchor Audio. The
speaker system goes around your shoulder (I wear it strapped on like a
messenger bag). Using this, I have done walking tours in business
districts on busy days, on school buses, in cemeteries, and could be
heard by a crowd as big as 75 people. It's bulkier and heavier than
some, but not too heavy to be a pain and it's also got great
amplification for its size. I've even used it indoors when a podium
microphone died.

-- AmpliVox has a unit called a BeltBlaster that is very lightweight
(something like 1.5 pounds) and fits on the waist like a fanny pack.
Using the headset microphone, I was able to do a tour on a horse-drawn
wagon and be heard even when a freight train passed by less than a block
away. Not as powerful as the Minivox but lighter and much easier to
carry and does a decent job for a crowd of maybe 20-30 people.

Hope this helps.

Leslie

We are looking for recommendations for good quality (durability,
sound,
comfort) waistband amplifiers or other types of portable amplifiers
that
work well for staff performing demonstrations. We don't want to
connect
to a PA system (which we don't have) but want something that allows
the
presenter to move freely around the exhibit floor as needed to present
demonstrations and be well heard. These would be used by both our
gallery staff and our visitor services staff. We'd love to hear your
thoughts, recommendations and experiences. Feel free to contact me
off
the list if you wish.

Thanks much,
