I'm working on a program on mummification for my museum education  
class (thanks to those of you who responded to my last query!). I'd  
like to create some type of scent jars so that students can get a  
whiff of the scented oils that were rubbed on the mummies.

What have you found to be the best method for this, keeping in mind  
that we are on a tight budget? I was thinking of just putting oil- 
soaked cotton balls into film canisters with holes punched in the  
lids. Any other ideas?

Also, any ideas for sources of scents? Luckily, San Francisco has no  
shortage of shops selling incense and essential oils. I'd like to  
include cedar, myrrh, thyme, and juniper.

Finally, any ideas how to turn this into a deeper experience beyond  
just "smell this"? I was thinking of also including some other, more  
familiar scents (e.g. vanilla, cinnamon) and having them guess which  
ones were the ones used by the Egyptians, with some hints.

Thanks for any ideas you can share! You were all really helpful as we  
were trying to plan out our mummy's body and internal organs! :)
