DESCRIPTION  8/14/08

 

TITLE:           Part-Time Audience Research and Evaluation Coordinator
(21-24 hours a week)

Term:              Temporary  - 21 months Sept. 1, 2008 through June 30,
1010

 

General Description: 

This department conducts market research, evaluates exhibits/programs
and tracks the Aquarium's progress.  Various departments use the
information to assist in planning, to identify problems or test
alternatives.   

 

The Coordinator assists the Manager with the logistical details of
projects, management of data and supervision of evaluation assistants.

 This is a growth position and new duties and responsibilities will be
delegated as opportunities arise. 

50%    Managing projects and staff

A specific data collection protocol is developed according to the
requirements of each project, including time considerations and goals
for total numbers.  The coordinator trains, schedules and supervises
part time workers and volunteers for data collection and entry.  

 

45%    Data management and analysis 

This position requires involvement in a wide range of projects, from
small, quick, discrete studies to multi-year complex projects.  These
projects need to stand on their own but also contribute to the overall
audience research and evaluation information management systems.  Data
can be qualitative or quantitative, originating from various print and
media methods.  Descriptive analysis is always performed and statistical
analysis where appropriate.  New methods of data collection and analysis
are constantly being added.

 

     5%             Other duties as assigned

 

Position Specifications:

                EDUCATION -   Bachelor's degree or higher in museum
studies, education, marketing, social sciences or a related field.

 

                EXPERIENCE -  One year of experience in survey research,
museum programs or related work, or the equivalent education and
experience; experience with both quantitative and qualitative approaches
to data collection and analysis; competency in Word, Excel and SPSS.
Knowing ACCESS is a plus

 

                SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS -  Excellent oral and
written communication skills (ability to write/speak Spanish is a plus);
ability to work independently and cooperatively with other Shedd staff
and members of the public, some weekend or evening work
