so we all know about the classic activity of shining up a penny using soda (or pop or whatever you call it where you live). Unfortunately, as a demonstration for how soda is not so good for your teeth, it kind of contradicts itself--to young children, it demonstrates that soda makes things shiny and clean! Even the explanation that the soda ate away part of the penny is not going to overcome the image.

So...what's a good substitute? Something that will look pitted and nasty? And is ideally white so it "looks like" a tooth? We tried to get some real human teeth, but it seems that's not really legal. (Who knew?!)
