ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

We have been working on a fieldtrip backpack program to integrate math and science for
upper elementary students. All of the teacher materials are on-line www.smm.org/
mathpacks and teachers register for the program and pick up the backpacks when they
check in.

I am in the midst of revising the Cells and Light sections based on pilot-testing we did last
school year. One of our evaluators observed and gathered data during the pilot-testing.

The major challenge has been to let teachers know about the option. We have presented at
the state math teachers conference, it is on our website and in our catalog. We also wrote
an article for the NCTM elementary journal, Teaching Children Mathematics. Check out the
website to see an abstract of the article or contact me for an emailed text-only electronic
version.
