I have 2 thoughts regarding the 5month old who has been diagnosed with eczema. First, if I have an infant under 12 months of age who is covered with eczema I do think of allergy as a possible primary cause. Of course, soy and dairy are the most frequent offenders, so I have mom do a 2 week trial of no soy or dairy.
The other thought-is this really eczema? Usually eczema spares the diaper region as it is a moister environment and eczema is a disorder of dry skin. So if this baby is covered and especially on the scrotum and is really itchy/miserable, I would make sure it isn't scabies. Other clues that it might not be eczema-if there is no family history of allergies/asthma/eczema or if other family members also have an itchy rash. Maybe get a 2nd opinion?
Good luck!
