I have been asked to write an article for a Dietitian trade publication and I'm looking for advice - the article is part of a series on being Politically Correct, and my piece is about offering advice/expertise without turning people off in regards to pregnancy/breastfeeding and infant feeding/feeding young children. The editor gave examples of women being uncomfortable when given unsolicited breastfeeding advice or promotion, or being told "you shouldn't be eating that" when they were pregnant.

My question for the list is this: how do you handle offering your support or expertise to women who are friends or family without making them uncomfortable that you are pushing something on them?

This is such a tricky area, because I think the common thought is that women already know that they should breastfeed, and don't want to be nagged, but the problem is in all the misconceptions and misinformation they have - how do we offer support and encouragement without turning people off?

Thank you so much for your help! If I quote you, I'll be sure to run it by you before submitting the article
