conducted one slow evening at work confirmed our suspicions.

We all talked about it, she agreed, we're not using the belly balls as
measuring
devices! Just a simple visual illustration. Precision isn't a requirement.>

I agree and at this point plan to continue using the balls.  Why? Because
they're easier shapes to generalize.  I don't need a pingpong ball, I can
use a walnut or some other item people from various cultures can relate to.
I guess most people know eggs--large, medium, extra large?  Walnuts don't
come in as many sizes.  And, as you said, the precise size isn't the point;
visualization is.
