Long time Lactnetters will remember Valerie McClain - she posted often on
the topic of corporation influence on, and sponsorship of, breastfeeding and
human milk research.

Valerie also is an expert on the topic of the patenting of human milk
components.   Researchers "mine" human milk, looking for components that can
be separated out of the milk, and replicated (sometimes by way of
bioengineering) for addition to other foods or medicines.  Many ethical
issues arise out of these practices.

These are topics that all breastfeeding advocates should be aware of.

It is nice to hear from Valerie again.
