Further to John's advice....
Its better, and more earth friendly, if you can buy button shellac
(pure) from one of the woodworking supply houses, then dissolve in
alcohol..
The stuff you buy in the store has all sorts of additives, as john
points out, some of which i would guess are pretty noxious. If you
do buy store bought, you can dillute in 1/2 with alcohol, then let
sit for 3 or 4 days. all the additives will separate out to the
bottom and you can decant the clear liquid. then of course you have
the issue of what to do with all those additives.
pure shellac is a joy to work with - it goes on so fast and easy,
putting on multiple coats is no chore at all.
thanks for the added info, john....
