Our policy is to allow the baby to get over birth shock and if blood
sugar is 40 and above baby can wait. There are also many factors
involved in watching the baby for other signs. A normal healthy baby
will not go with out a feed for more than few hours. If baby has nursed
at birth then we wait till baby hungry sometimes for 8 hrs. if glucose
normal. Hope this helps. Lois.Mathews,R.N. IBCLC St. Marys Medical
Center.

Subject: hospital policy for starting breastfeeding

Is there anybody working in a hospital enivrnoment that has a policy for
the
length of time a infant can go without a feeding or a first
breastfeeding. I am
getting much grief from coworkers about this issue. And what research
can I
use to back it up.

Thanks

Flopjo
