Have a mom diagnosed with severe PCOS. Had baby 2 years ago. Produced
only 4 - 5 ounces of milk/day. Started menstrating at 8 weeks postpartum
and milk supply completely went away. She is 25 weeks pregnant and has
done some research about starting metformin during this pregnancy. Hoping
this will help the insulin resistance re: growth of glandular breast tissue. Her
OB is willing to prescribe metformin. It is a catagory B for pregnancy and she
is well past her first trimester. From some of the studies I have read the
reviews are mixed on how much it helps if taken during pregnancy. Since this
is her 2nd baby I am hoping her body responds better during Lactogenesis II.
However, I am wonderring if anyone has tried goats rue during pregnancy? I
do not know the risks if any if taken during this time. She will start it once
she delivers, and ccontinue with the metformin. We will start her pumping
ASAP after delivery, (she may have to have c/s) due to the baby's size. If
anyone has any info regarding the above please post to the list so we can
share the information. Most of the studies are in their "infancy" so I want to
share this info with all. I will also give an update when she delivers and
periodically let you all know how the breastfeeding is going. She is very
motivated. Last baby she pumped after every feed. At least 8 times / day.
What a trooper. Thanks in advance...

robin
