i didn't want to go that far... some of the histories argue that canadian 
archaeology derived from geology (since it was first done by geologists), 
and there are also some interesting articles on why lots of early 
antiquaries were also medical doctors, but relatively few were lawyers, 
etc., so it's not so simple; you have the way universities are organised 
(don't think you can get a first degree in archaeology in spain, yet, for 
example; at least, when my wife studied there, she had to study history 
first), histories of the discipline (and their various layers of bias & 
misinterpretation), etc.
i was really hoping to bring some awareness to the whole issue of tunnel 
vision in a discipline which is supposed to be sensitive to other/foreign 
cultures, traditions, etc., since i've also been pointing out the british 
tendency to believe everyone works with SCP/SCR, etc.
