Job Posting:

Outreach Coordinator -- Flagler College, St. Augustine, Florida, invites applications for a full-time staff position for the Northeast Regional Center of the Florida Public Archaeology Network to begin Summer 2008.  For program information:  www.flpublicarchaeology.org.

Primary responsibilities include:  assisting the Public Archaeologist/Director with development and management of outreach programs, the establishment of collaborative relationships between the Center and the public in northeast Florida (local and county governments, students, volunteers, civic groups), and maintaining outreach tools—such as the Center’s website, mailing list, and quarterly newsletter.  Duties include representing the Center in classroom and civic speaking engagements, creation of public friendly material for various events, writing press releases and coordination of event publicity, and frequent travel within seven northeast Florida counties with occasional overnight-travel outside the region.  The position is a professional staff position and will not lead to a tenure-track position.

Minimum Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree in anthropology or related field with three years or more of work experience, a master’s degree preferred.  Interest or experience in public archaeology, education, interpretation, or public relations/communications desirable.  Candidate must: communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; have courteous manner in dealing with the public; work collaboratively with a diverse group of people; work without close supervision with the ability to make proper independent decisions; handle details and be multi-task oriented; access multi-storied buildings, multiple-level staircases, and outdoor sites; have the ability to carry up to 25 lbs of equipment/materials necessary for setting up information booths and field projects; and possess a valid driver’s license.
 
Salary:    Commensurate with experience and qualifications, with a range of $32,000-$40,000.  The position is full-time with benefits.
