Two immediate thoughts come to mind:

1. Even without a history of thyroid problems, it would be useful to have
mom's thyroid levels checked as postpartum thyroiditis (?) can occur and
interfere with milk supply.
2. Rarely, a mother develops gestational ovarian theca lutein cysts. Have
her testosterone level checked, as these cysts will raise it. Kay Hoover
wrote a paper on this which I don't have at hand, but from memory the cysts
will resolve and testosterone will fall at a few weeks postpartum, and for
mothers who have continued breast stimulation their milk will increase at
that time.

Others have much more experience than me, but I hope that helps.
