I myself have not done any work on science career days... But I heard a
presentation at the ASTC Conference a few years back about what struck
me as a cool way of doing it:

Basically, it was set up like a science fair. Each participant had to do
the tri-fold board thing, have a hands-on experiment for visitors to do
etc. The catch: the people doing the science fair projects were
professional scientists, who had to do their project about what their
job/research/area of expertise was, and the kids got to be the judges.

IIRC, it was the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum that did this, and they said
they knew the event was a success when the scientists started getting
competetive about who won. Sounds like a stankin' cool idea to me.

"Ah, there's nothing more exciting than science. You get all the fun of
sitting still, being quiet, writing down numbers, paying attention.
Science has it all."

One of our corporate funders has given money for us to do one this
school year as part of a science series. We will target a very broad age
range - elementary and middle school, and may even attract a few high
schoolers. We are planning science/STEM activities & demonstrations and
having a few scientists from the area on hand.

Has anyone out there put on a Science Career Day? What format did you
use? We are wondering if it is best to have the professionals do a short
talk, or be on hand at appropriate activity/demo tables to engage one on
one, or both.

Thanks, looking forward to learning from your experience.
