Dear August Colleagues,
First, many thanks to all who have responded to my e-question about ash in earthen plaster. As I expected, the responses have been enlightening, and I look forward to more of them. And, again, I apologize for cross-messaging that may occur by posting on two lists with overlapping memberships.
Second, as a point of clarification, I am interested in plant ash (i.e., mostly wood, although I suppose there are other options) rather than volcanic ash. Specifically, my lab assistant heard somewhere about the use of plant ash in earthen plasters. I've never heard of such, although I have heard of, and received responses concerning, use of ash as binder in adobe building matrices (bricks, courses, etc.). Hence, my e-question for your learnednesses.
Thanks,
Jeff
