I don't know if I'd call this a "great" exhibit, but I once saw a sand
table that used footprints you pushed into the sand to see what print it
left.  Some of the feet left nice impressions, while some did not.  It was
a simple neat idea for an exhibit because it is relatively easily
re-settable.  You could always experiment with different grades of sand
and different footprints to determine which combination was best.
