The family is in contact with the media, but the foremost concern is caring
for the little boy (who had to be returned to hospital over the weekend
because of swelling in his brain) and would very much like to continue
staying at RMH while he is hospitalized and in need of close medical
supervision. From the "resolution" Melanie describes
(http://reluctantlactivist.blogspot.com/) the ramily remains in a delicate
situation with regard to their accomodations. They don't want to have a
media circus around themselves or the other RMH residents. They are also
extremely grateful for everything *else* that RMH has done and do not want
to have the entire organization painted in a bad light. For all those
reasons, they are proceeding with caution, which should be respected.
I too find it extremely ironic that the "cultural sensitivities" argument
was used when it is indeed the dominant white culture that has the issue
with breastfeeding in public. I would love to hear what Molly Ivins
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molly_Ivins) would say about this.

What culture is it that has a problem with nursing in the common room? I
mean, besides Americans?
Is this a policy at all RMH facilities? Has a parent or other guest ever
actually registered a complaint about a mother nursing in a common area? Any
chance of getting the press involved in this? What side would the Houston
newspaper come down on in this story?
