And with all the contradictions in the SOP why would anyone without another
credential bother to sit the IBLCE exam? An IBCLC is supposed to be an
allied member of the Health care team - not some lackey who really doesn't
know what they are doing and is tossing out ideas just in case someone wants
to listen. I thought we (IBCLC's) were supposed to be recognized as the
experts in the field of lactation.
If we cannot do our jobs (which we could not under the SOP IBLCE put out
originally) then what is the point of being certified IBCLC? There is none.
So those of us like me who CHOOSE not to add another certification for our
own personal reasons will be devalued BECAUSE we have no other
certifications? That isn't right. And I will state here for all to see,
that just because one of my colleagues has her RN or MD and is also an IBCLC
does NOT make her a better IBCLC - it just makes her different. I spend all
my (work) time focusing on breastfeeding related issues - period. My time
is not spent on other non-BF related work tasks. Doesn't make me better -
but it sure as heck shouldn't make me less than.
Jaye
Plain old IBCLC and proud of it.
