Hi Brian:

We have used Wentzscopes and overall are happy with. The only drawback to the Wentzscope is that they are not able to look at solid objects very well, for slides they are great but to look at detailed specimens you should go to a video microscope.

We did some research a couple of years ago and found the MICROeye out of New Zealand. We have not yet purchased one but I have seen them used extensively in the Childrens area at TELUS World of Science Calgary. They have had few maintenance issues and it is so easy to operate that little instruction is necessary.

Subject: Microscopes in Musuems

Hello All-

We are putting together an exhibit revolving around Pathology Labs and the work they do. As part of this we are looking at using microscopes for visitors to try without staff supervision. Does anyone have experience using unsupervised microscopes in an exhibit, and if so what have you done to effectively allow visitors to use them without breaking them into thousands of tiny bits? Are actual microscopes worth the maintenance and upkeep trouble? Or should we replace them with images on an LCD screen?

Any reply and/or insights would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
