In the passed year, we had in Brazil four great surprises in the world
of the opera. Nothing than less premiered of 4 new operas! And composed
by Brazilians composers! Rare thing in a country considered only one
consumer of the traditional operas of Mozart, Donizetti, Verdi or Wagner
and with a so rich, but dismissable pop music.

The first opera was "A Tempestade" ("The Tempest"), music and libretto
by Ronaldo Miranda, based in text of William Shakespeare. The premiere
was given in 22 of September in Sao Paulo. The style is neotonal harmonies
with lyrical singing.

The second opera was "O Pescador e sua Alma" ("The Fisherman and his
Soul") by Marcos Lucas (music) and Guilherme Miranda (libretto, based
in the fairy tale by Oscar Wilde). It was premiered on 17 of November.

Another opera it is "Kseni, a Estrangeira" ("Kseni, The Foreigner") by
Jocy de Oliveira, from Greek Myth of Medea. It was premiered on 28 of
September. The music has electronic sonorities with sing in tribal
style.

Finally, "Olga" music by Jorge Antunes and libreto by Gerson Valle. The
story is based on the life of the Communist Jew-German Olga Gutman Benario
Prestes (1908-1942). She was the wife of the brazilian communist leader
Luis Carlos Prestes. Both was pursued in Brazil for activities politics
and she was delivered for the brazilian fascist dictator Getulio Vargas
to be killed by Gestapo in a concentration camp in Bernburg in 1942.
The premiere was on 14 October.
