        Small Wonders: Find the Nano in Your Life

The Franklin Institute, in partnership with the Penn State MRSEC and the
Cornell University Center for Materials Research
<http://www.ccmr.cornell.edu/> and through funding by the National
Science Foundation and Penn State University, is offering a free floor
program to interested museums that will be selected to participate upon
review of application (application form can be downloaded from
http://www.mrsec.psu.edu/museum/third/).

*What is the program? *
The program includes 8 cart-based, interactive, visitor-tested
demonstrations with a focus on applications of nanotechnology relevant
to everyday life. Descriptions of each demonstration can be found at
http://www.mrsec.psu.edu/museum/third/Small_Wonders_Summary.asp. Topics
include:

    * Seeing Scale
    * Stain-Resistant Fabric
    * Nano-Gold for Cancer Therapy
    * Invisible Sunblock
    * Groundwater Clean Up
    * Reversible Sunglasses
    * Liquid Metals
    * Antibacterial Silver

A representative from each selected museum will attend a one-day
training session at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, PA in
January 2008. All reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed by the
program. Participants will receive all supplies to perform the program
for one year for approximately 10 hours per week. After one year,
museums are responsible for supplying all consumable materials if they
wish to continue the program.

*How are museums selected to receive the program? *
Once all applications are received, the members of the partnership will
review the applications and choose approximately 15 museums to receive
the program.  Criteria for selection include interest, commitment,
museum size (past programs have included approximately equal numbers of
small, medium and large museums), and museum location.

*What does your museum need to provide for the program? *
A completed application (download from
http://www.mrsec.psu.edu/museum/third/) must be returned by October 31,
2007. Your museum must agree to present the program for a minimum of 10
hours per week for one year after receiving the program. Participating
museums must conduct quarterly surveys with pictures. These will be used
to evaluate and improve the program. The program requires a location
that has a table or cart with nearby electrical outlet.
