William: you might visit this website: www.listeningtotheriver.org This
is an NSF-funded project connecting kids and adults with environmental ed
organizations in their watershed with the goal of getting kids to discover
and explore the watershed. One of the products of this project is a
web-based interactive map of the watershed featuring the sounds and images
that kids think are important. The lead organization on this grant, Land
Information Access Association, has extensive experience using GPS to map
all kinds of things.

Has anyone done GPS mapping of their living botanical collections? Or do
you know of a place that has a GPS mapping or management system? I am
exploring the use of GPS to map botanical specimens and then making the
locations available on the web so that visitors can find them. It could
also be used to alert people to short-lived phenomena like what's
blooming, what's nesting, what's hatching, etc. I will share any list I
get of such projects.
