But such a non-Russian sound!  Compare the Leningrad PO under Mravinsky
in, say, Tchaik 6 to Pletnev's.  Too polite by 99%

And as for composer/conductor/pianists, how about Liszt?  And, in any
case, Wasn't a good deal of the Russian piano tradition derived, ultimately,
from John Field's time teaching in Russia?
