Dear LACTNETTERS - I thought you would be interested in new legislation
being introduced in NYS. It is comprehensive and all the parts are in one
place in the law books. The 3 parts support breastfeeding: in general in
hospital, after discharge, etc; in place of employment; and in WIC programs.

My time lobbying for the Breastfeeding Bill of Rights (NYS) in Albany
yesterday (1/30/07) was very interesting and worthwhile. Traveling to
Albany with some colleagues made it enjoyable and the work was a breeze.
Meanwhile, I thought you would be interested in the below message I
received. You have my permission to copy and pass this on to others who
would be interested. We want this bill to be passed ASAP, not years from now.

Warm regards,

Lee

P.S. If you live and/or work in NYS, please consider contacting the Senator
and Assemblyperson for the respective areas, asking them to support this
bill when it is discussed/voted on. There is no Assembly # yet, but the
bill will be the same as S1674 and can be identified as such.

Hi All - I just received some excellent news. The Breastfeeding Bill of
Rights is about to be reintroduced in the NYS Senate. It has a new bill
number S1674.

Also, we have an Assembly sponsor. Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther, who
represents Sullivan County and parts of Orange County, has agreed to be the
sponsor in the Assembly. Her many credentials include being a nurse. I am
sure she will be able to argue passionately on our behalf.

I also received some feedback that the Legislative Announcement we sent
around on 1/24/07 has generated a great deal of conversation in the
Legislature. Senator Krueger's office has received many calls about the
bill and about our activities on 1/30/07 [Lee: Senator Liz Krueger is the
sponsor in the Senate]. So things look as if they are off to a nice
start!!!!
