Deborah, I did the Inova lactation course which was run by Vergie Huges. It was excellent. If she has any input on the Inova Internship then I would imagine that it would be good also.
Perhaps a call to IBLCE might be useful for you, they were very helpful to me when I decided to embark on this career choice.
LLL meet in the evenings usually - could you find a group nearby?
Why not ask the LC at your local hospital if you could be mentored by her for a few hours a week? All your hours there must be supervised by an IBCLC to count towards your totals.
I know that it seems daunting at the moment but believe me - its worth it in the end.
