Hi Janine,

This is sort of out in left field but do take a close look at Peter
Beugel the elder's masterpiece painting "Tower of Babel". There are all
sorts of neat cranes and other devices from the late renaissance in this
work. This might be a source of useful ideas for you. Also, do check out
the stuff they have at Salisbury Cathedral in the UK. Not only do they
have the earliest mechanical clock there, they also still have the hoist
used to erect the tower in the 1300s.

Sounds like a neat project!

Hello All!

Love those great ideas that always come across this list-serve. I am a
science teacher who is on the exhibits committe at my local children's
science
museum, so I am always scouting for something new and fun.

We are planning a new exhibit area called the Simple Machine Castle. It
has
a medieval theme, and we have a number of interesting exhibit ideas. To
avoid
reinventing the wheel (pun intended) I am asking for your suggestions of

STURDY exhibits related to the simple machines theme. Our target
audience is
children ages preschool through middle school. Also, we do not have
space for
giant size exhibits in this area.

Thanks in advance for all your great suggestions!
