Hi All
There are several 'direct entry' midwifery programmes here in Australia.
These have been created in recognition of the fact that midwifery does not
require the same training as genereal nursing - and that two years part time
training may be insufficient to make a good midwife. It enables people who
don't want to take four years training as a nurse, work for a year and then
spend two more as a student midwife to take a four year degree and become a
certified midwife.
