Here at the Discovery Center I am constantly doing the bag experiment with 3-6 grade. I have been doing so for over 2 years in our Distance Learning programs. The kids LOVE it and we have had no problems. As I can recall, only 2 bags have exploded in those 2 years. I am not even in the room when these activities take place but on the other side of the t.v.

Subject: The Baggie Lab

Helllo Gang,

My question has to do with the famous Baggie Lab - calcium chloride, baking
soda, phenol red solution, in a zip lock back to observe signs of a chemical
reaction - What is the youngest age group that you would attempt to do this
lab during a fieldtrip visit? I know there are safety issues with the
CaCl2.

Thanks!
