ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers
Incorporated, a worldwide network of science museums and related institutions.

We did this activity for years at OMSI. It was very popular, but we eventually stopped because the supply of broken junk was very spotty. Some months we'd have more than we could handle, then we'd go a year without getting any.

The best take-apart I ever did was a hair dryer. Every part was obvious, and obviously did something. A switch, a fan and a heater.

SAFETY: It's worth repeating for the 5th time that TVs are super dangerous. Also, microwave ovens can put out a large amount of stored electricity. Never have visitors take either of those apart.
