I think that I see a bit of cultural differences in relation to this issue.
I personally do not know anyone here in Australia who weighs a baby pre and
post feeds. I have heard (usually 3rd and 4th hand) of the odd person who
does but it is not normal practice here for the reasons that Nina Berry,
myself and
others from here have expressed.

Babies here are weighed by the child health nurses to assess overall growth
- and we have situation where unless a one off weight is within a set
parameters some of the nurses will immediately comp with ABM or tell mum to
start solids or stop feeding without taking into account all the other
factors that we often remind each other about.

I do not believe that the LC's here in any way compromise babies and are
just as able to reassure mothers about appropriate feeding and mothering for
them. Neither do I believe that those who use the scales compromise their
mothers. I personally feel that this issue is becoming a bit of wedge for
some of us and some posts have tried to convince others that their way is
the only right way. There are cultural differences - please lets respect
these.
