Violinist Yosuke Kawasaki will make his New York City recital debut at
Weill Recital Hall on Wednesday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m., in a concert
presented by the S & R Foundation, honoring talented young artists.

Accompanied by pianist Vadim Serebryany, Kawasaki will perform Beethoven's
Sonata for Piano and Violin in A Major, Op.30/1; Elliott Carter's Duo
for Violin and Piano; Toru Takemitsu's Distance de Fee for violin and
piano; and Mozart's Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 32 in B flat Major,
K. 454.

The Juilliard-trained, New York-based musician has received critical
acclaim in the United States and Japan, where he currently serves as
concertmaster of the Osaka Century Orchestra and is also a member of
Japan's Saito Kinen Orchestra and Mito Chamber Orchestra.  The young
violinist is the former concertmaster of the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra,
and has been guest soloist with Aspen Chamber Symphony, Kyushu Philharmonic,
and the Orquesta Filarmonica de Lima, as well as the three Japanese
orchestras of which he is a member.  In New York, Kawasaki is a member
of the Metropolitan Museum Artists in Concert, broadcasting live on 96.3
FM-WQXR, and also appears with the Caramoor Virtuosi and Barge Music,
as well as collaborating with the Mark Morris Dance Group.  The co-founder
of the celebrated D'Amici Quartet, Kawasaki is an avid chamber musician
and has shared the stages with artists such as Walter van Hauwe, Nobuko
Imai, Karl Leister, and most recently, Leif Ove Andsnes.

Yosuke Kawasaki began his violin studies at the age of six with his
father Masao Kawasaki and continued with Setsu Goto.  At the age of ten
he was accepted into The Juilliard School Pre- College Division, where
he won the school-wide concerto competition.  He then continued his
education and graduated from The Juilliard School in 1998 under the
tutorship of Dorothy DeLay, Hyo Kang, Felix Galimir and Joel Smirnoff.

Praised by Canada's Globe and Mail and Toronto Star for his an excellent
musicianship and strong technique, pianist Vadim Serebryany was an Honours
graduate with Distinction from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto,
completed his Bachelor's and Master's degrees at New York City's Juilliard
School, under the tutelages of Russian pianist Oxana Yablonskaya and the
American pianist Jacob Lateiner, and received a Doctorate of Musical
Arts degree from Yale University under Boris Berman.  Since graduating,
Serebryany has been performed in Europe, South America, Australia and
throughout North America, and last winter completed his fifth consecutive
recital tour of Japan.  In recent seasons Serebryany has performed the
complete Beethoven sonatas for piano and violin (with Yosuke Kawasaki),
as well as presented solo and chamber works of the Second Viennese School
composers in creative programs.  During the 2005-2006 season Serebryany
embarked on a two-year project to perform the complete piano sonatas of
Beethoven in Los Angeles, where he also teaches at La Sierra University.

Bethesda, MD-based S & R Foundation honors young artists in various
disciplines who contribute to U.S. - Japanese understanding.  In
addition to a monetary prize of $5000.00, top winners of the S&R Washington
Award are awarded a showcase for their talents; in Kawasaki's case, the
Foundation is sponsoring the Weill Recital Hall concert.  The Foundation,
a non-profit organization, was founded in 2000 by Sachiko Kuno, Ph.D.,
and Ryuji Ueno, M.D., Ph.D., Ph.D. to encourage and stimulate scientific
research and artistic endeavors, recognizing talented young scientists
and artists for their distinguished work.  Foundation President Sachiko
