Hi list.

Just received the current Historical Archaeology. (VERY nice, Julie...)
Does anyone have experience with the effects of the standard process of
washing durable artifacts in water, perhaps accompanied by light to
moderate scrubbing with a tooth brush? I'm particularly interested in the
effects on remnant DNA and on chemical traces, particularly traces of the
various drugs derived from the opium poppy. Everyone SAYS morphia use was
wide-spread in the 19th century. We should, now or eventually, be able to
test bottle glass for its traces and test that "everyone says".

Lacking experience, does anyone have an opinion? (Do archaeologists have
opinions??:)
