POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
DATABASE MANAGER

The Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory seeks qualified
applicants for the position of Archaeological Database Manager for the
project, "Developing a Records Database for the State of Maryland's
Archaeological Collections."  The purpose of this project is to
digitally preserve and make accessible the archaeological field and
laboratory records associated with a number of collections (the artifact
catalogs have previously been entered into an electronic database).  The
Archaeological Database Manager will be responsible for organizing,
editing, and refining existing artifact and GIS databases, and
integrating them with a new Records Database.  The Archaeological
Database Manager will assist with the development of that Records
Database, which will contain digital images of scanned records, along
with information about them, and work toward making the database
web-accessible.  Responsibilities include managing and refining existing
archaeological databases at the MAC Lab, data entry, and assisting with
database development.  Hands-on work managing artifact collections is
also involved.  Knowledge of the nature of archaeological materials and
electronic databases a must,  including Access, Excel, SQL, or Fox-Pro.
Knowledge of Mid-Atlantic archaeology preferred.  The successful
applicant must have good writing and communication skills.  MA in
anthropology, history, or American Studies, or related field and two
years of professional experience required.  Some experience in database
management preferred.  The applicant may substitute a BA and four years
experience.  Position starts on or about April 5, 2006 and lasts
approximately 17 months.  Full-time contractual position, no State-paid
