Joanna Koch asks for help about phone queries. Specifically, what to do
when you feel the person on the phone wants you to sort out their whole
problem by phone, and you think they need to see someone.

Joanna, you don't mention why these people are phoning you specifically.
Are you on a list of people willing to take phone consults from anywhere in
the country? You could try asking them to hold the phone up to their
nipples so you can get a closer look, or hold the phone near their baby's
face during a feed so you can figure out what is going on. If they don't
get it then, they never will.

Seriously - if you say that you think they deserve more than a phone consult
because the problem sounds serious, maybe they will understand that you have
their best interests in mind. Would they get a haircut by phone? Have
their car repaired by phone? Thought not. Why don't they want the best for
themselves here too?
