Five Songs by Joelle Wallach World Premiere Performance on November 9
at Greenwich House Music School in New York City

Five Songs for soprano and piano by New York composer Joelle Wallach
will be given its World Premiere by soprano Janice Hall on Friday,
November 9 - 8:00 PM as part of the Composers Concordance concert at
Renee Weiler Concert Hall of Greenwich House Music School, 46 Barrow
Street in Manhattan.

Song titles are Close Your Eyes, Epistolary, The Clothes of Heaven, Alley
Cat Love Song and When Lost in the Forest.  These five songs include two
love songs; a torch song in the spirit of Jasmin, Wallach's exceptional
cat; a song of simple spiritual wisdom; and a setting of a personal ad
from the New York Review of Books.

This concert will also include performances of Dary John Mizelle's
Through a Glass, Ed Rosenberg's Wizard, Otto Luening's 3 Duets for 2
Flutes, Ron Mazurek's Shadows, Joseph Pehrson's Windjammer for woodwind
quintet and Frederic Rzewski's To the Earth.  Performers include Esther
Lamneck, tarogoto, Erin Lesser and Roberta Michel, flutes, Beth Meyers,
viola, Peter Jarvis, percussion, Eric Sedgwick, piano, Tibi Cziger,
clarinet, Laura Covey, oboe, Gina Cuffari, bassoon and Alana Vegter,
horn.

New York-based Joelle Wallach composes music for orchestra, chamber
ensembles, solo voices and choruses.  Her String Quartet 1995 was the
American Composers Alliance nominee for the 1997 Pulitzer Prize in Music.
The New York Philharmonic Ensembles premiered her octet, From the Forest
of Chimneys, written to celebrate their 10th anniversary; and the New
York Choral Society commissioned her secular oratorio, Toward a Time of
Renewal, for 200 voices and orchestra to commemorate their 35th Anniversary
Season in Carnegie Hall.

Wallach's early training in piano, voice, theory, bassoon and
violin included study at the Juilliard Preparatory Division.  In 1984
the Manhattan School of Music, where she studied with John Corigliano,
