<<Hate to burst your bubble, but as breastfeeding is an ACTIVE effort on the
part of the infant, and not just someone force-feeding with a bottle, it
does
take more energy on the baby's part. I know NICU nurses who can
bottle-feed
a rock. Repeated studies have shown that premies of any age will take more
from the bottle than at breast - even with excellent lactation support and
help. >>
What about the work of Paula Meier that demonstrated that respiratory rates
were smoother and Oxygen sats were higher with breastfeeding than w/ bottle
feeding. And yes, I can bottle feed a rock too -- but because of the rapid
flow of bottled milk, is that compromising the baby's respiratory values, and
possibly heart rate as well?
Is taking MORE from the bottle (premie or full term) necessarily a good
thing?
Are there any studies that actually show kcal (energy) used during the act
of breastfeeding vs the act of bottle feeding? The baby can (and does) rest
frequently during breastfeeding -- but chug a lugs during bottle feeding.
Which is more energy saving?
