Yes, I've heard of this before and I preach "drink to thirst."  It's some 
kind of hormonal communication between the kidneys and the cells.  A study 
in 1985 in J Peds showed that forcing fluids negatively affected milk 
supply.  The flip side is that limiting fluids doesn't affect engorgement 
either. Old Nurse tales or something like that :-)

Milk supply is directly responsive to milk removal!  The more baby takes, 
the more mom makes!  Pat in SNJ
