Yes Susan I heard that too...this morning on Morning Edition/NPR, it was reported that the Niger president denied the famine and crisis and called it "propaganda" by aide agencies.  http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4795196

Of interested, the reporter, Ofeibea Quist-Arcton  for NPR in Senegal, said that "babies are latching on to their mother's empty breasts unable to drink milk" and that "mothers were trying to find and use goat milk for the infants. "
Very sad report, and one with strong undertones of a political crisis as well as a humanitarian one.
