On the subject of outdated symbols and icons:

In Britain, the standard symbol for a railroad crossing is a stylized
representation of a steam locomotive - tho' none have been used for
decades.  Maybe the box-like shape of a diesel or electric locomotive does
not make for easy recognition.

But, we must be getting to a time when no one recognizes stylized steam
locomotives.  Will the new generation of Britons be mown down by speeding
diesel and electric locomotives, having failed to spot the level crossings?
