Hi,

My name is S.Amani Stevens I am an RN and CLE who is studying to sit for the IBCLE exam in July, I have working in mother-baby for15+years and have been an educator for 10 years. I speak some basic Spanish and love helping moms make the transition to parenting from pregnancy.

At this time I work in a community hospital which is providing couplet care, but has many old habits which affect the information we give to our patients. As a learner, I am concerned that I do not provide inaccurate information as I try to educate my colleagues. One of the things among many, which I want to research for evidence based information is the sleepy baby in the 1st 24 hours. It is my intuitive feeling and observation, that babies do fine even if they scarcely nuzzle mom for the 1st day and then they wake up hungry and eager to learn. The problem is that of course, we can't just let them sit in the cradle...but there is a lot of tension around this, and I have seen a pediatricians undermining of breastfeeding by supplementation with formula...can you direct me to some good information? Thanks so much, Peace. Amani
