I recently tried out this pump several times myself and could not tolerate
it. It expressed about the same amount as I was used to but it was very
uncomfortable each time I used it -- I even developed vasospasm in one
nipple. It felt much like a poor latch, like my baby was chewing, and my
nipples were usually misshapen, almost rectangular in shape following each
session.
The last time I tried I could only use it for about 5 minutes because of
the pain. I had a lot of dry/peeling skin on both nipple faces from EPing
and this pump just cleaned it all off for me, leaving them nearly
abraded. I feel like it temporarily damaged the tissue as the next time I
pumped with my regular pump, I developed two suction blisters.
Customer service was somewhat helpful, but finally advised me to just
photograph the damage and send them a detailed report of what happened
(still need to type it up for them).
I agree that the many parts are a huge hassle to clean; the company
advises doing a "quick clean" of everything after each use and then
thoroughly taking it all apart and washing it well about once a week. If
a mom had a yeast infection or some other issue necessitating more
frequent or stringent cleansing, it would be very inconvenient with this
pump. It was also hard to get the cups centered exactly so that they
wouldn't twist. This was part of the problem I had with it, but even when
trying cups out that I hadn't taken apart, straight from the manufacturer
(figuring it was *me* who was causing the extremely painful pumping), they
usually did not pull exactly straight in. What further annoyed me was
that I couldn't see if I had my nipples centered precisely because of the
design -- I was trying this pump out because of other nipple trauma and it
was quite frustrating to not see what was happening and have my nipples
end up in worse shape.
Anyway, I obviously had a bad experience with it and would NOT try it
again...
