While we are discussing this topic, I wonder if the change in attitude happended more from a change from matriarchal to patriarchal societies. You often see ancient art that promote the pregnant figure and depict the larger, fuller lactating breasts. At some point in history, the value and appreciation and veneration of women and motherhood. For example, if you are Jewish
you trace that through the mother's line. Yet somewhere tradition started going through the male line and women became pawns in marriage to create bigger property holdings, country alliances, etc.
It appears that to elevate men, they had to demean women and their unique contributions. Women in modern culture still find that bias, as we know. In the work place they have to be more of a "guy" then the men, quite often. How many women feel they can't breastfeed or pump at the work place for the "soft" image that would portray?
