I have been thinking of this for some time, and just want to publically thank
Barbara Wilson-Clay and Kay Hoover for providing the "Breastfeeding Atlas," a
priceless reference. The "Atlas" is always in my home visit bag and the
photos from first edition used in my breastfeeding class. When describing and
discussing tongue tie, compressed nipples, thrush and the like, I show moms
(Dads) the photos from their book, and parents often then get that "aha" moment of
recognition of the breastfeeding problem. My favorite response, recently, was
from a mom with whom I was explaining skin-to-skin contact; I found the
picture of Kangaroo mother care in the "Atlas" and mom expressed how lovely it was
and after that routinely began STS with baby (previous discussion without the
picture did not entice her to initiate STS).
So thank you, Barbara and Kay for helping me better reach mom and babies to
overcome diffulties with breastfeeding.
