Fortifiers are used in premies primarily to increase protein, calcium and
phosphorus. Increasing calories is way down the list in terms of
appropriate
growth.
I know you are right technically, but unfortunately, that isn't the only
reason it's used here. It has also been used (and I've gotten calls from
moms wanting to know where they can get it because their baby was sent home
on it!) as "insurance" that baby will gain well. I do understand that is not
its original or primary purpose.
